Today's broadcast owners only worry about building tomorrow's audience. They see no return in investing in the past. To them, ancient history is a newscast anchored by Sky Yancey or John Lindgren.

As much as we would hope that local stations, particularly those in mid-sized markets such as Lexington, would hold onto and honor their histories, people who work there now consider it a solely a job -- and they don't go to work thinking about what came before. Just think of your own job, particularly when you're cleaning out your own office -- don't you look at stuff laying around and think, "heck, let's just pitch it rather than have it sitting around." People at TV stations are no different, no matter how much we (and I) wish they would preserve some of the stations' past.
