Does anyone remember a short-lived local show on WBLG-TV hosted by radio personality Dale Wright? It would have had to be in the early 1970s and I believe it was on in the afternoon. It didn't last long and I remember it had a studio audience of may two or three audience members (judging by the sound of the applause).

John, are you talking about the Happy and Froggie show (a guy dressed up like a clown talking to a frog puppet). They showed Three Stooges every day on channel 62 in the 1970's.

No -- the show you're referring to was "Happy's Hour" that ran on channel 62 from the mid- to late 70s.
The station announcer Tim Eppenstein was Happy until right before the show's run ended in '78 or '79.
I'm pretty sure the short-lived The Dale Wright show ran in the early 1970s.

Actually, I think he was on for several years. Or maybe it just seemed like it..... But just to give you an idea of his audience demographics, I am now 53, and I was a late teen- early twenties when she tuned in every day. I don't think his audience was actually so small.

FORMER RADIO/TV PERSONALITY HAS JINGLE IN HIS HEART
Lexington Herald-Leader - December 23, 1995
"I'm a different person now. I look back on 'Dale Wright' and he's somebody that existed in the past. It's like that old song. I don't know who wrote it, but I remember the title. The title was: 'Whatever Happened to Me?"' -- Dale Wright, 1995 The biggest thing in the mobile home was a 7-foot Christmas tree with 1,000 blinking lights and all kinds of ornaments, including a...
That's just part of the article. They want you to pay them for the rest.

Yep, this must be him -- Dale Wright was also on WBLG-AM and later hosted a show on WNVL-AM in Nicholasville. However, I clearly remember his show on WBLG-TV being very short-lived.

By short-lived I mean weeks not months or years. I remember it airing in the early afternoon and it was on and off before one could say "Channel 62 filled the time with more Little Rascals shorts." (But I am a big Little Rascals fan thanks to channel 62!)
Dale did have a long run on WBLG radio and later on WNVL radio.

Didn't Dale Wright do one of those"barricade yourself in the studio"protests when WNVL decided to change formats at some point?

He also hosted WTVQ's production of ICW wrestling.

I was a camera operator at TVQ when Happy's Hour premiered. Tim was not the first Happy! The show started with the hobo played by Phil ?, I don't remember his last name, but he was the station's promotion and advertising director. He lasted on the air for just a couple of days! Tim was pressed into service, and made to wear the (unpressed) suit. Froggie was created by the station's production manager, who had done the character at a station in West Virginia before moving to Lexington. He told me he'd once been sued by the actor who'd played "Froggie" in the Our Gang movies.

MG, thanks for sharing the info on the Happy Hour. This was popular with college students at a time when nobody was doing any local programming. Heck, the stations are not doing any local programming today other than the news. The Happy Hour was a great place to watch the Stoogies films. Do you know how much, if any, of the shows survived? I noticed they showed a few seconds on WTVQ's anniverasay show a few years ago. That makes me think at least one show might have survived. Thanks for providing the nice behind the scenes info on the show.
